FOR THE LOVE OF TYPE
This is a project where I designed a visual theme for a typography book, as well as researched and analyzed a specific typeface to feature. The final book designs include my personal typeface research as well as the overall theme for the book including front and back cover, end sheets, table of contents, and divider spreads.
The typeface-specific pages were restricted to black, white, and two accent colors while the overall book theme could utilize other colors and elements and was relatively open in terms of the design brief.
Created in Adobe InDesign + Photoshop
I decided to keep my design limited to type-only to keep the focus on the content of the book. I chose a five-color palette that could be used to differentiate between the font sections designed by my classmates as well and tie into my own personal section which utilized two of these colors.
Because this book wasn't going to be printed, I took this opportunity to work with more experimental compositions that crossed the gutter and gave typically boring pages like the table of contents a new interesting look. I wanted the overall theme of the book to tie into my personal typeface section and to do that I chose to use the asterisk motif on divider pages throughout the book as well as implementing it as a graphic element in my own spreads.
