ILLUSTRATED TYPE

GRATITUDE FOR THE PARK RANGERS

For this project, we were prompted to consider world events from the past couple of years and craft a thank you featuring illustrated type for a certain underappreciated group. Personally, I've always been a big nature person and especially considering the restrictions of the covid days I was inspired to do a card thanking the park rangers for all the unseen work they do protecting and maintaining the sanctity of the national parks.

SKETCHES + PROCESS WORK

Because this project was focused on illustrative type, I wanted to experiment with the different ways I could portray my message through different styles of typography. As I started creating compositional sketches, I came up with the concept of turning this message of thanks into a postcard–something that could hypothetically be sold at a national park gift shop with the proceeds going back to the rangers themselves. I experimented with a variety of ideas, all stemming from my physical sketches, and tried to emphasize the importance of nature by incorporating type and illustration into one design.
